Review how to make the letters in sign language.
Introduce the letter R/r.

Introduce the phonological sound the letter R/r makes.  Go over the picture cards of words beginning with the letter R/r.
Sing, "This is the Tale of the Letters A/a through R/r."

Compare the upper and lower case R/r.  Discuss how they are made with straight and curved lines.

Review the familiar words:  hi, VPK, the, see, like, this, an, go, to, can, she, likes, look, at, is, my, on, and.

Review the familiar words for the week:  I, have, a. 

Track and read, "My R/r Book."

Show the word card Valentine's Day.
Ask the children what they know about Valentine's Day.  How do you celebrate it?  Have you ever given a valentine?  How did you feel about the person you gave it to?

Read some Valentine's Day animal riddles.

Tuesday
LET'S FIND OUT - "Valentine's Day Rhymes!"
(traditions, feelings, phonemic awareness/rhyming)

Read and listen for rhyming words and find heart shapes in unusual places.

Look at pictures of children showing different emotions.  Ask the children how they think the child in the picture might feel and why?

     (small motor, investigation, language)
